A Necessary Evil

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1 To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:

       2 A time to be born,
And a time to die;
      A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
       3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
      A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
       4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
      A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
       5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
      A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
       6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
      A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
       7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
      A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
       8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
      A time of war,
And a time of peace.

Rain, and all our seasons, are a necessary evil.

  1. But, couldn't you also call it a blessing?
    (Beautiful pic, by the way.)

  2. Yes Becka_Bo. These very seasons are a necessary evil to bring out the blessings and the good--to make them stand out even more. I kinda see it like this: blessings are when one is so overwhelmed with gratefulness by the mere tiny light that peaks through the vast darkness around them.
    When someone refers to our setting on earth as "all Hell breaking loose"...well that's true. Evil and darkness bombard our souls and daily lives constantly. But there is beauty and victory when the good and the light conquer over the evil and darkness and blesses any who are standing in it's rays.
    It's kind of like in MegaMind (the movie:semi spoiler coming) when something like this is stated: "I really miss MetroMan (good) because my evil schemes and plots to destroy the world aren't any good or any fun when there's nobody to come up and battle against."
    Satan doesn't want Christ to gain victory--if only he could admit like the bad guy in this movie that it takes good to have evil come about and for it to 'be any fun'. Good/Love (aka Christ) can stand alone in and of itself because it is perfect and pure. Bad/Hate (aka Satan and anything anti-Christ) can NOT stand alone because in and of itself, it is merely just the LACK OF good/love. I know I 'tangented'...but it was something really on my heart--I hope it can be used as a blessing.
    Thank you, Matt...for reminding of us of His Word and the truth it holds that there's a time for everything...and that in the end, peace will overcome and win because Christ promises us that though things get tough, and there will be hard times, He stands by us and holds us, if we're willing, the entire time.
    Beautiful job capturing the dreariness of a rainy day but the beauty that comes from it, life and color!
